This year’s Birthday Suit Part 3 will be held this evening at 7:00 p.m in the Blackburn Ballroom. Birthday Suit Part 3 will seek to address the conversation of “homosexuality as a choice” and the LGBT population within the black community.

This creative event seeks to address the conversation of, “homosexuality as a choice” and the LGBT population within the black community. Just because I’m natural does that mean my hair is nappy? Have shades of black created the division in the black community? Should I be treated differently because I am gay? This creative event will showcase the state of all identities and beauty on Howard University’s campus.

The goal of this event is to unify, educate, and provide the facts. Through a trending fashion show, dance ensembles, a panel discussion, and entertaining multimedia throughout the evening, this creative production will serve the students’ desire to consider a change of thoughts.

What is the purpose of Birthday Suit? Birthday Suit’s purpose is to enlighten and entertain. Birthday Suit is a series of events highlighting the way “people are born”, this event will inspire creative and intellectual conversation and work on Howard’s campus. Birthday Suit Pt. 1 was concerning the “History and Ideas Surrounding Natural Hair and Beauty in the Black Community”, Pt. 2 was focused on how “ALL shades are beautiful”, and Pt 3. will discuss “Were you born like that”?

“Throughout the evening this event will serve the students’ desire to consider a change of thought and spark intellectual conversation on Howard’s campus,” said Darius Thomas, School of Communications President and event planner.

On the panel, we have Pastor Delman Coates of Mt. Ennon Baptist Church; Deneen Long-White, the HU Human Sexuality professor; Lauren Morris, the Federation of Black Pride Board Member; and Theara Coleman, the President of Cascade. Performances will be performed by: NSAA African Dance Ensemble, singers, dancers, and so much more.

Birthday Suit will have free HIV/AIDS testing from 12-3:00 PM in the lower level of Blackburn prior to event this evening.
